You need to make the most of your holiday when visiting The Retreat Beach Houses at Peregian Beach, from the moment you begin your holiday until the moment you arrive back home. We’re lucky to have some wonderful and unique destinations scattered along the drive from Brisbane to Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, so we highly recommend you leave the highway and take a road less travelled.
Moggill Ferry
If you’re coming in from the southside, why not take a ride on the Moggill Ferry. This is a cross river cable ferry that connects Moggill and Riverview on the Brisbane River. The quick trip only takes about 3 minutes, but it’s sure to start off your trip with a bit of excitement and something different!
Fernvale Bakery
Once you’re on land again, take the M2 and A17 northwest to the Old Fernvale Bakery and Cafe. You’ll drive for about 20 minutes or so through semi-rural areas, so keep an eye out for wildlife and farm animals! Once you get to Fernvale, drop in to the bakery pick up treats for a picnic later!
Somerset Dam
Once you’ve picked up your goodies, head north via Wivenhoe Somerset Rd for about 35 minutes until you reach Somerset Dam. If you love water activities, this is the place to be! The dam offers near perfect conditions for waterskiing, wakeboarding and fishing. Set up a picnic rug and settle in by the water with the family for a few hours of sunshine, water and picnicking amongst nature.
Kilcoy
When you’re all tuckered out, bundle the family back into the card for a drive through the south-east Queensland country. As you head north towards your next destination, you’ll pass through the small town of Kilcoy, through a scenic landscape of rolling hills and rugged mountain ranges offering picturesque views of Lake Somerset. Kilcoy is best known for the Yowie, with legends of this creature dating back thousands of years and the most famous “encounter” occuring in the late seventies. If you want to spot a Yowie, it won’t be too tricky…there’s a massive statue of this mythical creature at Yowie park!
Maleny
Your next stop on the list is the Brouhaha Brewery at Maleny – a great place to stop if you have a designated driver! Founded by locals, the Brouhaha mission is to share their love of quality food and beer with the community. You can’t go past a tasting plate to sample each of their craft beers!
If you’re not into craft beer, fear not, Maleny has tons of other cool things to see and do. Explore the Botanic Gardens and Bird World, take a walk through the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, or splash about in Gardners Falls.
Yandina
As you head toward your beachside accommodation at Peregian, we suggest you take one last country tour through the small town of Yandina. Visit the Ginger Factory for ginger treats and entertain the kids aboard their train or boat tour. If you’re more of a sweet tooth, the Nutworks and Chocolate Factory is just across the road, so you can satisfy all your cravings. For nature lovers, there are plenty of nature walks in the area, as well as the Wappa Falls Astronomical Observatory if you want to see something out of this world.
