Sunshine Coast Hinterland Day Trips

Hinterland Daytrip

You’re in prime position when holidaying at the Retreat Beach houses in Peregian. Just a short walk from the beachfront and situated among the quiet coastal bushland, your private accommodation is the gateway to the Noosa Beach and beyond. While the Retreat is perfect for a holiday by the sea, when you’re staying in such a beautiful part of the world, you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity of exploring the surrounds.

The Sunshine Coast and Noosa Hinterland is teeming with many unspoiled and hidden gems, fantastic for day trips for those looking for an adventure. There are so many things to do and places to see in the area, but here are just a few of our favourites.

Eumundi

Tucked away within the luscious and vibrant hinterland you’ll find the eccentric town of Eumundi. Known best for it’s weekly markets which run every Wednesday and Saturday, this unique town calls upon lovers of good food, great drinks, live music, arts, crafts and street performers.  You can easily spend a whole day here with the family and still have so much left to explore. With an abundance of talented locals seeking to share their gifts, stories and joy with the world, a visit to this region is a must for anyone looking to explore the greater Noosa region.

Noosa Everglades

For a tranquil experience like no other, visit the Noosa Everglades. Explore untouched wilderness and pristine waters in one of only two everglade systems on Earth, a tropical wetland within the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park. Escape the crowds and cruise through the river on your own time via kayak, canoe, stand up paddleboard or boat. Perfect for adventurous families who love the outdoors, it’s not uncommon to spend a whole day exploring all the nooks and crannies of the everglades, then returning to your beach house Retreat at Peregian and wanting to do it all again the next day.

Pomona

About 40 minutes northwest of your private accommodation at the Retreat Peregian Beach, is a small hinterland town called Pomona. Perfect for the artsy traveler wanting to explore a country-style town close to the coast, you’ll find a number of cool vintage stores, unique artisans and the oldest continuously running silent movie theatre in the world! The Pomona Country Markets are held every second and fourth Saturday of the month, with over 65 stalls offering fresh and delicious produce and treats, interesting collectibles and a wonderful collection of plants. Nearby is the towering and challenging Mt Cooroora, home of the annual King of the Mountain Festival. For an interesting and eclectic country drive, make sure you add Pomona to your Sunshine Coast holiday list.

Cooroy

Cooroy is a Noosa hinterland town that ticks all the boxes, combing history, arts, nature and good fashioned country hospitality. Explore farm gates and breweries, delicious cafes and restaurants, or browse boutique stores and art galleries. With spectacular scenery of mountains and hills meeting the beautiful Lake Macdonald, this town will charm any visitor. Bring your bikes or your walking shoes and discover the hinterland via the Noosa Trail network. Cooroy is less than half an hour’s drive from the Retreat at Peregian Beach through coastal bushland, though we recommend you make a day out of it and stop by the Noosa Botanic Gardens and Lake Macdonald along the way.

Montville Village

It’s a longer drive from your Peregian accommodation, but one that’s well worth it as you’ll pass rolling green hills of the hinterland and views of the Sunshine Coast right down to the coastline. Perched atop the Blackall Range, you’ll find the quaint village of Montville – a charming, Old English style town bustling with life. Home to boutique shopping, art galleries, cosy cafes and delicious restaurants, there’s plenty for the family to explore. The iconic Kondalilla National Park is located close by, for those that would like to hike, picnic or cool down in a picturesque waterfall.

These are just a few of our favourite spots – there’s so much more left to uncover in the beautiful Noosa and Sunshine Coast hinterland. Chat to one of our friendly team members for recommendations or to book an activity or tour.
